Lost and simply adrift in things that are beyond my control...beyond my making...beyond my reality.

Ever the same and ever changing just enough to really make your stomach clench.

With my father in hospital again after a few falls, we are stuffed back into the healthcare tube. I believe he'll be sent to skilled care once more and potentially allowed to go back to assisted living.

But when he was in the ER a nurse and doctor asked us if we'd considered moving him to a nursing home. A nursing home? We just moved him to assisted living! He's only 80! He's my Dad!

He's my Dad.

Don't think you'll be ready when this is your parents - don't think you'll know what to do or what is right. Don't think for a second you'll make all the best decisions. Don't think for a moment that you'll be in control. Don't think for a heartbeat that you won't wonder if your parents hate you for what you're having to do for them.

You'll wonder everyday. Off and on for months after each "earth shattering" decision. Each choice you've removed from their control.

I am not ready. And I do wonder.

He's my Dad.
