No time for self.
For the first time today my brother and I had a family talk with my father. About his health, life, dreams, wants, needs, and just about everything in between. We aren't alike, my brother and I. In a different fashion we're both like our father. We've had talks before with Dad about changes he needs to make, what sort of road he wants to travel, but never all three of us at once.
It is now a fact that my family reunion can fit into a booth. Not many of us but we're powerful as a group. Roles are changing - my father becoming a child as we become parents to him.
Which is strange. Often bad strange.
Who would have thought that years ago, when we looked like this...
That things would be in the shape they are today? We didn't plan well enough. We didn't talk enough. We didn't hug enough.
Mistakes we have to correct, while still moving forward. But there is a chance that it's too late for changes like that - too radical when thought through. Instead maybe it's just a loss of time and places that can never be recovered.
My brother and I are who my father made us. We are his children. We are powerful.
